  • The district is reminding families of some back-to-school basics regarding busing, the food services program, new student registration, and other beginning-of-the-year information.

Postcards are being sent to parents/guardians of children who are eligible for a school bus with their bus stop and schedule information. Bus routes will also be posted on this website, the individual school websites, and the district cell phone app.

Bus routes will be in full effect starting the first day of school. Students should be at their bus stops earlier than their scheduled time on the first day. Parents are responsible for their children arriving safely at the assigned bus stop in the morning and are strongly encouraged to be at the stop to greet their children in the afternoon. Kindergartners will not be allowed off the bus without a parent or guardian there to greet their child.

Parents of students who are not taking the bus for the first few days of school, or who won’t be taking the bus during the school year, should notify the school in writing before or on the first day of school.

All students new to the West Haven School District should be formally registered at their incoming school. Visit our Central Registration page for more information.

The District’s residency policy requires that all students, without exception, produce bona fide proof that they live in West Haven,.

Parents must accompany all new registrants who are under eighteen years of age. They are also required to present educational and health records obtained from the school that was previously attended.”

Students needing medication to be administered by school staff must have a written order from their health care provider.

The Food Services Department will be serving breakfast and lunch at all schools starting on the first day of school.

Students should arrive on the first day of school with a backpack, pencil and folder. Lists of any additional school supplies needed may be distributed to students at that time.

Students must provide two proofs of residency to their school, as per the district’s annual requirement. Acceptable proofs include copies of a lease or mortgage statement and copies of utility, phone or cable bills. Families should fax or bring the proofs of residency to school before classes start, or students can bring the proofs of residency on the first day of school. Fax numbers are available on the school websites.

As the new school year kicks off, families are encouraged to download the school district’s free cell phone app by searching “West Haven Public Schools” in their device’s app store. The app will have notifications, menus, calendars, snow day alerts, school and teacher contact information, Parent Portal, PTA webpages, and more.
