Sofie Burns, a 4th-grade student at Pagels Elementary School, was one of only 10 students across the country to win an Amazon Gift Card in the 27th Annual National Student Poetry Contest hosted by the America Library of Poetry.
“When I found out she had won, I was absolutely thrilled for her because she’s an exceptionally talented young writer who has the tenacity and enthusiasm to persevere,” said Sofie’s 3rd-grade teacher Lisa Biagetti, who helped her submit the poem in the spring.
Sofie’s poem, a Haiku about nature, is titled “Nature’s Beauty” and it will be published in December in a book of student poems. She was very excited to learn that she had won, and is still undecided on what she will spend the Amazon gift card on. Sofie is now a student in Maria Nicolelli’s 4th-grade class.
