The West Haven High School football team defeated Greenwich on the road Sunday in the CIAC Class LL Semifinals, 26-13. With the win, the third-seeded Blue Devils will play in the Class LL State Championship Game this Saturday, December 9th, at Central Connecticut State University. West Haven will face top-seeded Staples at 5 p.m. on Arute Field.
Saturday’s Championship Game will mark the Blue Devils' first title appearance in 20 years. They reached the finals by defeating sixth-seeded New Britain 28-14 in the Quarterfinals before their win over Greenwich. West Haven enters the game with an 8-2 record.
Staples owns a 9-1 record with its lone loss coming against the Blue Devils in the season-opener on September 8th, in which West Haven won 33-23. The Wreckers have won nine-straight since that loss and defeated eighth-seeded Fairfield Prep in the Quarterfinals, 13-12, before a dominating 41-0 win over fifth-seeded Southington in the Semifinals.
