Mike Violano, affectionately known as "Vio," is being inducted into the Connecticut High School Boys/Girls Hockey Hall of Fame. A remarkable three-sport athlete, Vio excelled in hockey, baseball, and soccer during his high school years. Graduating in 1975, he played a pivotal role in leading West Haven’s hockey team to a championship victory over their longstanding rival, Hamden.

Vio's athletic achievements were recognized when he was inducted into the West Haven Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011, highlighting his contributions across soccer, hockey, and baseball at the high school level. Beyond his accomplishments as an athlete, Vio made a significant impact on the community through his ownership of Vio's Sports Plus. This athletic design, screen printing, and trophy shop became a staple in West Haven, serving the community for nearly 40 years and fostering a love for sports among local youth.

In addition to his business endeavors, Vio dedicated time to coaching, sharing his passion for sports and mentorship with aspiring athletes. His leadership and guidance helped shape the next generation of players, leaving a lasting legacy.

Vio passed away in October 2024, but his influence on the community and sports will be remembered. The induction ceremony will take place on May 8 at Cascades Fine Catering in Hamden, CT, celebrating his extraordinary contributions to athletics and the West Haven community.
