assistant superintendent speaking to students

In January, Assistant Superintendent Judy Drenzek asked classroom teachers to work with their students on goals, whether they were academic or based on one of the six pillars of becoming a responsible individual, which are: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Our six elementary schools, as well as Carrigan, spoke to their students and created some wonderful ways to implement their goals in their daily routines.

The staff generated various methods for showing success as students worked towards meeting their goals, from charts with stickers to creating a calendar of accomplishments, posters, or writing a letter to someone. The students were very excited about sharing their goals with others.

Mrs. Drenzek visited every classroom in the elementary schools, and Carrigan, and allowed the students to share their experience with the goal and how they were working to achieve it. They had conversations about what they were doing to be a better student and a better person. Each room received a classroom game as well, in recognition of their work together.

Setting goals is a lifelong strategy that helps an individual to grow and develop. You are never too young to apply goals to your daily routines, whether it is a short or long-term one. Planning a goal not only motivates an individual but also encourages a person to take on responsibility for their own needs.
