Today marks the end of our 2-week long 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽! During the first week of camp, for grades 5-6, students learned what goes into a criminal investigation such as fingerprints, blood types, and blood splatters. They looked at a mock crime scene and heard from guest speakers! During the second week of camp, students going into 7th & 8th grade were presented with two crime scenes and had to solve the crime using UV light. They also heard from guest speakers of the FBI and WHPD, as well as from the state forensics office and state troopers. On the last day of camp, students had to figure out an escape room that was built by teachers, and if they figured it out, then they caught the suspect!
Our students in the 𝗘𝗟 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 had a great time today exploring fire trucks 🚒 and ambulances 🚑! A big THANK YOU to the West Haven Fire Department for stopping by Savin Rock and letting the kids touch the equipment and go inside the vehicles!
The EL Academy is a 2-week program in its second year. It's for English Learning students in grades K through 4, and this year, it has doubled in size to 200 students! It's project-based learning based on science units, in which students learn about plants, planets, food groups, and the human body! Some of the activities include growing plants and making pizza using Play-Doh. Teachers from across the district help out while tutors provide help to Spanish, Arabic, and Pashto-speaking children.
The Lego Camp is fully underway at West Haven High School! There are roughly 200 incoming 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th-graders enrolled in the program.
