Last, but certainly not least, we would like to shine a spotlight on our Carrigan support staff!
.
The Carrigan team plays a critical role in helping students acquire the resources they need to achieve success in and out of the classroom. The team also strives to enhance awareness of mental health, social-emotional development, and community resources for long-term support.
.
We thank you Carrigan staff for catering to the health and well-being of our students!

Forest Elementary School enjoyed an enrichment program on Thursday with the Harlem Wizards! The professional athletes demonstrated their basketball skills and tricks and were great showmen who delivered fantastic entertainment to all. There was much excitement and energy from the students with lots of student and staff participation loaded with humor and smiles. They ended the assemblies with a positive message about the importance of education, health, and fitness.

Washington had its last All School of the year today! We celebrated all the grades and all the growth they have made in reading, math, writing, iReady/math, Lexia/reading, and using good character. Students clapped and cheered for each other, their teachers, and paras! We cheered on our Students of the Month and our Lexia superstars. We celebrated 78 students in April for perfect attendance, 132 for May (as of the other day), and one student, Lida S., who has 100% perfect attendance from the first day of school! She’s so close! Kindergarten also shared their “how-to” writing, and first grade taught us a new game and shared a song and dance they learned to use the 100’s chart to help them solve their math problems. What a great ceremony!

Carrigan celebrated Cluster E and Cluster J on Wednesday with a pizza party! Both clusters had the highest iReady usage throughout the entire year.

The Savin Rock counseling staff provides social-emotional learning to all students in the building through a classroom model. Students benefit from ongoing instruction on feelings identification, building relationships, and problem-solving. Savin Rock is also fortunate to partner with both ACES and Cornell Scott - two organizations that provide an extensive array of mental health services. Pictured here: Lisa Flemmig (Social Worker), ACES School Psychologist, Anna Lonardo (ACES BCBA), Liz Werle (Social Worker), and Brittany DePalma (ACES BT). Not pictured are the many classroom teachers who work hard to build partnerships with families and add to our social-emotional learning on a daily basis.

Bailey's first annual Family STEM Night was held on May 23rd in the Bailey Cafeteria. Students and their families were able to visit different tables and immerse themselves in hands-on challenges in science, technology, engineering, and math. One of the challenges was to make a cut-out person travel down a zip line the fastest using different materials to change size and mass. There was a room where students were able to code a Lego Robot through a maze using scratch coding, and the CT STEM Academy from Wallingford also came and shared Ozobots with our families. These are small robots that can be coded using colors. The night was filled with excitement of doing STEM and participants left with take-homes, raffle prizes, and memories. We hope for another great turnout next year.

Yesterday, Washington students celebrated with their families and shared some great writing!

Assistant Superintendent Judy Drenzek and Food Service Director Meg Kingston visited the learning garden at Mackrille School to plant some vegetables and flowers that the kids grew themselves, with help from these two ladies!
