On Saturday, March 2nd, 10 members of the WHHS Student Government / Interact Club performed community service by volunteering at the Dr. Seuss Read Across America book giveaway sponsored by the WH Rotary Club. Scholastic Publishing donated many books that were distributed to West Haven elementary school students. The event was held at the Masonic Lodge on Center Street.

Carrigan Intermediate School celebrated 'Black History Month' today with assemblies in the auditorium. The theme was “Stand Up”, and the core message to students was to chase their dreams as they celebrated African American musicians, poets, local legends, and more. On Wednesday, February 21st, three students from WHHS (on the left) competed against three students from Notre Dame HS in the 4-Way Speech Contest run by the WH Rotary Club at Lorenzo's Restaurant! The three Westies, from left to right, are Genesis Sikorski (10), Eshwar Balakumar (12), and Sabrina Sabol (12). Eshwar finished in 1st Place and will advance to a regional competition in early March. Genesis finished in 3rd Place.
Yesterday, Savin Rock fourth graders went to the Eli Whitney museum in Hamden! They built rubber band cars as part of the science curriculum study of friction and motion.

Students in Pat O’Connor’s Applications of Technology class at Bailey Middle School used Lego units to build robots! The seventh graders spent 6 weeks coding and building their robots. Despite some failures and frustrations along the way, the final product was amazing! The robots could do anything from dancing along to music, moving like a bug, protecting valuables like a safe, acting as a claw to grab items in hard-to-reach areas, and more! Forest School celebrated Perfect Attendance for January by awarding 179 students with a certificate! We also had a raffle for the 179 kids, and one student from each grade received a $10.00 gift card to McDonald’s. Pictured here are our raffle winners from each grade, Kindergarten – 4th.
The sixth-seeded West Haven High School boys’ basketball team defeated 11th-seeded Career, 57-41, in the first round of the SCC Playoffs last night. With the win, the Blue Devils advance to the quarterfinals and will play this Saturday, February 24th against third-seeded Xavier at Branford High School. The game is scheduled to start at 5:15 pm.
