𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 | Over the past 19 years, K-12 students from all over Connecticut have had the opportunity to submit their creative writing, poetry, and prose for the annual Celebration of Young Writers. This is a great opportunity for students to submit their pieces of work and compete against students from all over Connecticut. Six Debate Team members from WHHS competed in a competition at Yale University last Friday, February 9th, organized by the Yale New Haven Debate League which included several area high schools! The students from left to right are Igra Alam (Grade 9), Spogmai Hadi (Grade 9), Ada Akdag (Grade 9), Genesis Sikorski (Grade 10), Bedirhan Ozmen (Grade 11), and Ehsan Hadi (Grade 10).

WHHS celebrates National SRO Appreciation Day!
Yesterday, Mrs. Napier’s class did a Valentine’s heart stack challenge. Students worked together and strategized how thick they should cut strips of paper to make hearts, as they competed to create the tallest Valentine’s heart stack. The winning team had a stack 7" high! They will now turn the data into a bar graph next week during their graphing lesson.

Happy Valentine’s Day from our Forest A.M. preschoolers! These shirts were a Valentine’s gift from one of the preschoolers to their friends.
Congratulations to Chyanne Matheney, a WHHS student in Mr. Laydon’s Freshman English class, on recently winning a writing competition and receiving a ‘Talent for Writing’ certificate! Chyanne is now a finalist in a Young Writers creative writing contest and will have her short story published in a book called Hunted - Chasing Daylight. The book will be available for purchase in April. Chyanne’s story is called The Woes of the Prey.

After their trip to Bailey, our West Haven Veterans stopped by West Haven High School and delivered Vietnam War posters to students in Mr. Kirck’s U.S. History class!
Earlier this week, 3rd graders at Pagels School made a picture graph and voted on who they thought would win the Super Bowl, and today, they recorded the results and made a bar graph!
