WHHS junior Eshwar Balakumar won 1st Place and the $500 grand prize at the Rotary Club 4-Way Speech Contest District Finals on Saturday at the Trumbull Marriott!
Eshwar (pictured on the left in both photos) bested students from across southern Connecticut. His roughly 6-minute speech centered upon the danger of desensitization in today’s society and the importance of ending harmful stereotypes.
Congratulations to Eshwar for representing his school so well and making us all so proud!

The WHHS Student Government/Interact Club recently renovated the Sandy Hook Memorial on campus! The memorial was created 10 years ago by the Student Government in response to the tragedy. They had worked hard to fundraise to purchase a bench and plaque, while also planting a tree and holding a dedication ceremony. The green and white rocks are the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary School. The 6 rocks directly around the tree symbolize the 6 educators while the 20 rocks on the outer ring symbolize the 20 students.
